This has been the first public engagement by the new organisation since the conclusion of the legal case mounted by the previous organiser and original festival assocation last month
A few days ago we noted that comics veteran James Hudnall was going through a very rough patch, with the amputation of his foot due to a diabetic ulcer. We've been following along on his FB page and although his recovery has been good, he's now in a pretty tough spot. The operation took place in Austin, TX where he'd just moved to take a job—which may or may not still exist. He's also been forced to move out of the place he was staying because it is not suitable for a man in a wheelchair. As of this morning he has no place to live, and staying in a motel while he gets his stuff in order is expensive.
We've finally reached the place where cartoonists are giving dating advice in short videos. That it is the SEX CRIMINALS team of Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarsky should come as no surprise, as they were seemingly genetically bred for this task. The duo appear in a video on EW to talk about their new "advice" book Just the Tips and tell some dating stories. Zdarsky definitely wins this one, and it's true if there's no one to talk to, breaking up is hard.
The Guardians of the Galaxy dvd comes out next week (BluRay following a few weeks later) and director James Gunn is making the press rounds to promote the extras, including stuff that was left out of the ending:
Going about your business clad in the underwear of a superhero is a god given right, and it's not just for cosplay any more: Hot Topic is now offering DC underoos in adult sizes including Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, Batgirl, Harley Quinn, and Captain America. Please note, these are actually branded Underoos, after a a long ago brand of child sized superheroic undies, as our pal Paul at Idle Hands revealed:
Look, The Beat had a bad day yesterday and made lots and lots of mistakes. Tonight we're getting a full five hours of sleep and things should be much better. Okay? Sorry about all that, but it happens. Our "hire a copy editor" fund is to the right in the box marked "Patreon." Also, it is going to snow soon, so send hot cocoa.
On a special one-off podcast revisiting the 2021 film, James Gunn suggests the movie's canonical status may be up to Margot Robbie, and provides an update on casting the DCU's Batman.
