When DC Next Level was first announced, two titles were revealed without creative team or release date information: The Demon and Shadow of the Bat. At San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, DC finally provided details on both.
Having just completed the Eisner-nominated series Absolute Martian Manhunter, the duo of Deniz Camp and Javier Rodriguez have once again joined forces for Shadow of the Bat, which will run parallel to the events in Batman by Matt Fraction and Detective Comics by Tom Taylor.
Camp gave insight into the series at SDCC: “It’s Batman coming to terms with the failure of our institutions and the trauma of his own, paralleled with the trauma of the people of Gotham after a massive chemical plant explosion, along with every other traumatic event they’ve experienced.”
Camp said there will be a focus on new characters, new villains, and the attempt to reinvent Batman in the pages of this new series.
DC has yet to reveal a release window for Shadow of the Bat, but one should be forthcoming.
