SDCC ’26: Announcing the 2026 Eisner Award winners

The 2026 Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards were presented at San Diego Comic-Con International on Friday, July 24 at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel. Hosted by Phil LaMarr and Thomas Lennon, the ceremony awarded trophies to winners across 32 categories in addition to special honors.

The 22nd annual Bill Finger Award for Excellence in Comic Book Writing, presented by Mark Evanier and Finger’s granddaughter, Athena Finger, went to Jenny Blake Isabella (Black Lightning, Luke Cage, Ghost Rider) and the late Martin Pasko (Dr. Fate, Metal Men, Justice League of America). The honorees were chosen by the selection committee consisting of chair Evanier, Charles Kochman, Kurt Busiek, Jim Amash, Scott Shaw!, and Marv Wolfman. 

“I was raised in part by comics and I think they did a pretty good job of it…I very much like who I am today,” Blake said during her speech, later adding, “I want to write comics until I die…then my cats will eat me because that’s the circle of life.”

This year’s Bob Clampett Humanitarian Award, presented by his daughter, Ruth, went to Elfquest creators Wendy Pini and Richard Pini. 

And finally, the Russ Manning Promising Newcomer Award was presented to Our Soot Stained Heart (Mad Cave Studios) and 20th Century Men (Image) artist Stipan Morian. His speech was short and sweet: “I must be the oldest new comer. Thank you very much.”

The 2026 Hall of Fame inductees were awarded at a separate ceremony on Friday morning. The 19 inductees chosen by the judges’ panel are deceased creators Edwina Dumm; Ollie Harrington; Don Heck; Abe Kanegson; Paul S. Newman; Héctor Germán Oesterheld; Tom Palmer, Sr.; and Jimmy Swinnerton. The living creators are Bob Bolling; Gerry Conway; Denys Cowan; Mike Friedrich; Lee Marrs; Go Nagai; Bud Plant; Mike Royer; Dave Sim; Carol Tyler; and Rick Veitch.

The Voters’ Choice Hall of Fame inductees are: Colleen Doran; Jeff Smith; Chris Ware, and the late Akira Toriyama.
