On Friday at San Diego Comic-Con, Adventure Time fans learned that the latest spinoff set in the Land of Ooo, Adventure Time: Side Quests, will return for Season 2 this fall. That means basically no wait between the first season, which debuted in June, and the second—and that’s pretty mathematical.

Adventure Time: Side Quests is set before the original series and focuses on the early years of Jake the Dog (John DiMaggio) and Finn the Human (Sasha Knight). Unlike the original series, which followed a main story across multiple seasons, Side Quests is more light-hearted, self-contained, episode-long standalone stories that loosely connect but don’t tell an overall arc.

Produced by Cartoon Network Studios, Side Quests was developed by showrunner and executive producer Nate Cash and features the return of DiMaggio as Jake, Tom Kenny as Ice King, Hynden Walch as Princess Bubblegum, Olivia Olson as Marceline, and Niki Yang as BMO. It premiered on Disney+ and Hulu on June 29 with seven episodes.

Friday’s panel confirmed that Season 2 will have 20 episodes, bringing the series total to 27.

In addition to Cash working behind the scenes, Victor Courtright and Niki Yang direct, Nick Cross is the art director, and Matthew Janszen is the composer.

Although the original Adventure Time series ended in 2018, the franchise has continued to evolve through multimedia spinoffs, including series like Fionna and Cake, Distant Lands, and the upcoming Bubblegum and Marceline and Heyo BMO.

Adventure Time: Side Quests Season 2 will premiere this fall on Disney+ and Hulu.
