Nice art: Jaime Hernandez's Return of the Ti-girls

0
Over at FLOG, they have released the back cover for Jaime Hernandez's God & Science: Return of the Ti-Girls, a collection of the story from the first two issues of LOVE AND ROCKETS: NEW STORIES VOLS. 1 AND 2. While Jaime's story from volumes 3 and 4 "The Love Bunglers" has rightfully been held up as one of the greatest comics of all times, for a lighter course, this might be a suitable choice. We can't help but think that all of the people calling for great superhero stories featuring women will find Ti-Girls a masterpiece, as well, an entire superhero universe made up of nothing but superheroines of various shapes and sizes.

DC Talks Changes – $3.99 Bat-books and the Spectre of Cancellation Looms

0
Over at Newsarama, Vaneta Rogers gets some new information out of DC's dynamic press junket duo of John Rood and Bob Wayne. It seems that "holding the line at $2.99" is getting a more politically nuanced definition. Batman and Detective Comics will both be making the jump to $3.99 and getting a few more pages.

Superman: Earth One – Volume Two Announced for 2012

0
After announcing Batman: Earth One, DC follows up by announcing the second volume of the JMS/Shane Davis Superman: Earth One graphic novel series. The first volume of this Superman reboot sold VERY well and made a strong case for original graphic novels in the superhero genre. (As opposed to Vertigo's Sandman and Fables offerings.) While the Batman volume appears to be set for July, no date seems to be released for Superman:Earth One. Volume 1 was released in November 2010, so it would make sense if this were another late fall/holiday gift release.

Sales charts: glass half full of numbers!

Our wish for actual sales number released by an actual comics publisher were finally granted! And in The Hollywood Reporter, no less. DC released sales for its top three books of the year:

BATMAN: EARTH ONE will appear in 2012

0
DC's Earth One line has always been a little mysterious. It was started as a repository for some early trial runs at an Ultimate DC line, but then SUPERMAN: EARTH ONE became a massive hit in bookstores. Stablemate BATMAN: EARTH ONE by Geoff Johns and Gary Frank has been waiting in the wings since the line was announced in 2009. But 2012 will be the year! Although a release date wasn't mentioned, perhaps the book will be marketed in Daily News by comparing it to Hunger Games, just as SEO was compared to Twilight.

This was alluded to in our 2011 Survey, but now it's official: the great Peter Bagge has a new series coming out from Dark Horse in April. Called RESET, it's about a man who has a second chance at living his life. Will it get better or worse? AWESOME BONUS SAUCE: Variant covers by Matt Kindt!

Go to DANCE CLASS with Papercutz

0
With all the popularity of High School Musical/Glee/American Idol and other performance-based media these days, comics have been tiptoeing around this genre. There was Siena and Mark Siegel's To Dance; and Raina Telgemeier's upcoming DRAMA!, due this fall. And here's a new one from Papercutz, Dance Class: So You Think You Can Hip-Hop by Béka, aka Bertrand Escaich and Caroline Rogue. Aimed squarely at tween girls, it's another French pick up for the publisher, and it looks pretty charming.

Preview: CURSE OF THE WENDIGO by Mathieu Missoffe and Charlie Adlard

0
Although you'd think he was busy enough drawing THE WALKING DEAD every month, artist Charlie Adlard occasionally has time to toss off something like CURSE OF THE WENDIGO (reviewed here) a horror comic written by French screenwriter Mathieu Missoffe and released in France in 2009. The story is set in World War I and finds French and GErman soldier teaming up to fight a greater horror. An American edition is out today from Dynamite, and here's a preview:

DC's red hood lady gets a name: Pandora

0
After carefully strewing the Woman in the Red Hood, who kicked the whole collapsed multiverse in FLASHPOINT, through every debut issue of The New 52, she's got a name: Pandora. She also has a double-breasted jacket, like everyone had in The Watchmen......hm. Anyway, looks like the first mega crisis crossover of the new DCU is getting set up.
