BY JEN VAUGHN - Comic writer, podcast host and serial blogger at his own website, The Invincible Super Blog, and Comics Alliance, Chris Sims sat down to have a chat with me about his upcoming Dracula comic to be fully released on Monday, October 31st, also known as Halloween. Six delicious pages are up as a preview now.

Although it would be equally suitable for a 28 days of Valentine feature, we'll file Jonathan Case's new GN DEAR CREATURE under Halloween just because it stars Grue, a deep sea monster. Encountering volumes of Shakespeare beneath the waves, he decides to come to shore to look for romance, and finds it with a woman named Giulietta...but nothing is as it sounds like it will be. This was one of the most unexpected GNs we encountered all year, especially coming from Tor Books. It's kind of loopy but very sweet and the art, in pristine black and white, is hugely expressive.

Mike Romo writes over at iFanboy that things have changed since he purchased an iPad. Among the plusses -- easier to find back issues, comics look better and...NO BENT PAGES.

We don't know exactly what is going on in these set photos from the Vancouver shoot of the new Superman movie, but we approve.

Over on her site, Colleen Doran is posting her out of printGothic short story "Three Black Hearts"a page a day until Halloween.

Another day, another option, but this one is a bit different -- this time the comics creator himself has been tapped to write the script. Ed Brubaker is writing a script for a COWARD movie based on the first arc of his CRIMINAL series, says Variety. David Slade (TWILIGHT, 30 DAYS OF NIGHT) is attached to direct for Jamie Patricof's Hunting Lane Films.

Another haunted webcomic, this time Red Light Properties Dan Goldman's creepy series about a real estate agency that specializes in cleaning up then selling haunted houses. Cory Doctorow gave it a big plug the other day:

We've previously plugged Terry LaBan's MUKTUK WOLFSBREATH, HARD BOILED SHAMAN because it's a hardboiled detective story about love, metaphysics, and obsession set among reindeer-herding tribesmen in the chilly forests of Siberia. Best elevator pitch ever! Terry writes to let us know the story is wrapping up soon, so there's still time to jump on board the reindeer.

Team Cul-de-Sac launched as a fundraising effort for Parkinson's Disease Research after Reuben award-winning cartoonist Richard Thompson was diagnosed with the disease. The plan is to publish a book next spring and auction off some of the all-star art. Along the way it's featured art by retired cartoonists like Bill Watterson and Cathy Guisewite, all drawing Thompson's Otterloop characters. Here's a new piece by not-retired cartoonist Garry Trudeau. This is gonna be some book.

Okay we kinda fell off the track there with our Halloween feature but we'll play super catch up until the big day. here's Stephen Price's take on Hellboy as Eustace Tilley, the New Yorker's cartoon mascot, in a submission for their annual Eustace Tilley art contest.

This December, MEMORIAL by Chris Roberson and Rich Ellis comes out from IDW. The six issue mini-series is the story of Em, a young woman who arrives at a hospital in Portland, Oregon, with no memory of her past. A year later, her newly-rebuilt life is thrown into turmoil after she inherits a magical shop, the kind that appears in an alley one instant and disappears the next. Em is drawn into a supernatural conflict between beings that not only represent, but are, fundamental elements of the universe itself. All of existence is at stake, so there’s only a little pressure on Em, the magical shop, and a talking cat.
