After an interminably long wait, Marvel Studios has finally released the first trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder. The Taika Waititi-directed film picks up in the aftermath of Avengers: Endgame, and finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) traveling the universe with the Guardians of the Galaxy (Chris PrattDave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel), and searching for a new purpose in life.

But perhaps most importantly, the Thor: Love and Thunder trailer also offers viewers their first glimpse of Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) wielding Mjolnir as Thor:

Set to the dulcet tones of Guns ‘N’ Roses, the trailer finds Thor having given up his superheroing ways. With Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) serving as administrator for New Asgard, Thor appears to return to Sakaar with Korg (Waititi), and viewers also get a look at what appears to be another thunder god – perhaps Zeus? – who wields a literal lightning bolt in his hand. Is Thor looking for advice from other pantheons?

Interestingly absent from the trailer is any sign of Christian Bale‘s Gorr, the God Butcher, touted as the main antagonist of Thor: Love and Thunder. Personally I think existential ennui is way scarier than any giant monster, so this trailer is plenty effective without him showing up to wreck havoc.

Check out a few more screengrabs from the new trailer below. Thor: Love and Thunder is set to arrive in theaters in July 2022.
