Marvel Month-to-Month Sales: April 2015—Star of the Reorders: The Force Awakens

16
by Xavier Lancel—

Welcome to a new analysis of the Marvel sales. Reminder: I'm French, that's why I'm talking funny. Please address your complaints to my sinking-in-the-middle-age country.
Reminder: those sales are estimates, sales to comics shops located in North America. American comics do get sold somewhere else in their original floppy edition. Keep also in mind that if a copy is sold to a shop that doesn't mean it's sold to a customer. This would be way too easy. Digital sales are not taken into account.

This month is again lead by the Star Wars franchise at Marvel, but, more surprisingly, it is literally invading the lower portion of the chart with 10k to 20k reorder activity on several issues! There really are a lot of Marvel floppy comics on sale this month (a little more than 100!!). There were so many different variant covers things going on this month that I didn't bother trying to understand it.

Marvel is leading the way as the most expensive publisher of floppy comics, its customers have never been asked to spend so much in a month. Well, until next month and its invasion of #1 and famous crossovers!

Marvel to drive inside the liners insane with new coloring books for adults

4
Can YOU color Bryan Hitch or Carlos Pacheco? Is your crayon shading up to the task of finding the light source? Or staying on model? You'll soon get the chance to find out, as Marvel is releasing three new coloring books for adults. One is Little Marvel by Skottie Young which is great fun and fairly colorable. The other two are AGE OF ULTRON and CIVIL WAR. Frankly, I think that Age of Ultron page would drive anyone insane, but I guess the stakes have been raised considerably in coloring book tech. Would you tackles these with crayons, colored pencils, Doc Martin, or something else?

The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl issues 1-4 get new printings

0
I've seen a lot of speculation about Unbeatable Squirrel Girl by Ryan North and Erica Henderson being on the edge of the cancellation zone, but the first four issues are getting a reprinting—their third—with connected covers by Henderson and new copy by North. This is sort of interesting to me, without knowing any of the behind the scenes on it, as it seems to speak to a special interest in the book, which features a college age heroine who has fun with pals while beating Galactus. It definitely has an all-ages vibe to it, and a bit of a cult following. It's certainly one of the most unusual books Marvel is publishing so it's nice to see it get a boost, even as it suggests the book is more successful than it seems from the charts alone.

The weirdest thing about that Jill Lepore piece on A-Force

I kind of missed the tidal ebb and flow over Jill Lepore's analysis of A-Force in the New Yorker while I was at TCAF. I saw it in my feed and figured it would ignite some debate but I was misled by the title on the piece

In cas eyou are wondering, the story was spoiled many places, as FemmeThor #8 with the above reveal cover is coming out tomorrow, but the official Marvel version of the leak seems to be here at Vulture, where writer Jason Aaron chats and reveals that
