DC’s July comics announcements; The coming of Grayson and what’s coming in September

10
Here's the DCU and New 52 solicits for July -- and as a BONUS becuase of the lead time needed for the lenticular covers, the September Future's End solicits, with NO CREATIVE TEAMS ATTACHED, probably because ANYTHING could happen between now and then. We'll have Vertigo and trades in the next post. Of note -- the new Grayson, Teen Titans and Suicide SQuad books and HArley Quinn at Comic-Con by Amanda conner -- a good time is guaranteed in that one.

DC Comics Month-to Month Sales: March 2014 — Forever Unchained Overture

25
Greetings, sales charts fans! It's time once again to look at DC's sales figures. DC take the top four spots on the Diamond sales charts, as all four of their bestselling titles (Batman, Forever Evil, Sandman Overture and Superman Unchained) actually shipped in the same month! Despite that, DC still fell short of their top competitor Marvel by about 9% in both dollar and unit share, as Marvel have many more comics that perform in the 50-70K unit space than DC does. And average sales hit the lowest level since the New 52 began. Warning: The commentary below may contain reasoned analysis, speculation (unfounded and otherwise), opinion, and/or snark. Those looking for a more straightforward analysis are directed to John Jackson Miller's excellent Comichron analysis, posted earlier this month right here at The Beat! All of the opinions expressed in this column are my own and do not reflect those of my employers, Heidi McDonald or anyone at The Beat, the Centers for Disease Control, or my neighbors' dog Miles.

A tale of two Kevins: Feige and Tsujihara

2
The two most powerful people in comics— Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara and Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige—were both the subject of fairly hagiographic profiles recently. The Feige piece in Businessweek was probably the more revelatory, as it offered ACTUAL INFORMATION on the very secretive Marvel Studios process, and the legacy of Ike, such as the following account of the dorm-level offices.
