James Gunn may already be on the job as DC Studios co-head beginning work for “Chapter One: Gods and Monsters” of the DC Universe, but he’s still preparing his MCU swan song with Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 3. Today during the Super Bowl, Marvel Studios released the second Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 trailer.

All the Guardians are back including Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Drax (Dave Bautista), a time-displaced Gamora (Zoe Saldaña), Rocket Raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper), Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel), Nebula (Karen Gillan), Mantis (Pom Klementieff) and Kraglin (Sean Gunn). They’ll be joined by some new friends including Cosmo (voiced by Maria Bakalova) and Adam Warlock (played by Will Poulter).

They’ll be joined by Cosmo (voiced by Maria Bakalova) and Adam Warlock (played by Will Poulter) as they face off against the High Evolutionary played by Chukwudi Iwuji who previously worked with Gunn on the first season of Peacemaker

The previous trailer gave us a pretty good idea of what to expect and this latest one is no exception. Set to the tune of Rainbow’s “Since You Been Gone,” we get more insights into the sad backstory of Rocket Raccoon’s creation at the hands of the High Evolutionary.

As previously mentioned, this is Gunn’s swan song with the characters and the MCU before embarking on bigger and bolder things and working his magic with the DC Comics characters. The prevailing theory is that not all the Guardians will make it out alive by the end of the film with most assuming that it will be Rocket Raccoon that kicks the bucket. One thing is for sure, Gunn is definitely making sure is going out with a bang and making his last GotG film will be one to remember.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 arrives in theaters May 5, 2023.
