In a Tweet sent on Monday, March 29th, 2021, the official Star Wars Twitter account revealed some of the supporting cast you can expect to see when the long-awaited Obi-Wan Kenobi series finally arrives for streaming on Disney+.

A Galaxy of Stars for Obi-Wan Kenobi

The fact that Ewan McGregor is returning as Obi-Wan Kenobi has been common knowledge for a while, and during Disney Investor Day 2020, it was revealed that Hayden Christensen would be appearing on the series as well (whether this will be a flashback to when he was Anakin Skywalker, or a scene set during the timeline of the series, which is between Episode III and Episode IV – meaning Christensen would instead be portraying Darth Vader – remains to be seen).

Now, additional members of the cast have been unveiled: Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell and Benny Safdie will each be appearing in the series… although it is as of yet unclear what roles they may be playing (although it is likely Edgerton and Piesse will be reprising the roles of Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru, which they first played in Episode II).

According to the Tweet, Obi-Wan Kenobi will be considered a “special event series,” a descriptor previously applied to Star Wars: Lando – currently being developed by Justin Simienalso announced during Disney Investor Day 2020.

In Feburary 2020, it was announced that the series had a working title of Pilgrim, but if the graphic revealing the cast is any indication, it seems as though Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi will be the show’s official designation.

Obi-Wan Kenobi begins production soon

According to the Tweet, production on Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi will begin “soon.” In the meantime, the upcoming first season of The Book of Boba Fett and the third season of The Mandalorian will be arriving on Disney+… Not to mention the spinoff of the seventh season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the animated Star Wars: The Bad Batch, arriving on May the Fourth.

  1. The show I’m mostly looking forward to is this one. What a cast! And Ewan is a great Obi-Wan and was easily the highlight of the prequels, in addition to Ian McDiarmid.

  2. Blah blah blah. Same old stuff over and over again. How about something original set after the preceding movies? I like McGregor and thought he needed more time in the prequel but after Annikin started slaughtering children I thought that the time was right to move on with this concept. Give me new characters and storylines not a movie that caters to a fan cult obsessed with wringing every last drop from the original characters and movies. This course is gonna kill the franchise.
