If you’re a Wonder Woman fan, you’re probably well aware that today marks the 85th anniversary of the characters’ first appearance within the pages of All-Star Comics #8 in 1941. Those who noted the seemingly subdued celebration for such a monumental milestone should be most pleased with today’s news as DC has announced details for a Year of Wonder, a publishing initiative consisting of “an unforgettable year of stories from celebrated comic book creators.”
With writer Tom King and artist Daniel Sampere wrapping up their epic run on the main Wonder Woman title this December, rotating all-star creative teams will take over the book beginning this January. It’s not dissimilar to the Superman Superstars initiative for Action Comics a few years back.
The first creative team up to bat is legendary writer Louise Simonson and artist Cian Tormey for a new four-issue story that establishes a bold new status quo for Diana and her world beginning with Wonder Woman #41 on January 20.
In Simonson and Tormey’s story, Wonder Woman is determined to abolish the Amazon Safety Act and clear the way for her sisters to return to the shores of Man’s World. But after everything they have endured, are the Amazons ready to return, or have they given up on saving humanity from itself?
Some may be surprised that this run marks Simonson’s first time writing the Wonder Woman title. In a statement, Simonson teased some of the other DC heroes and villains that readers can expect:
“I haven’t written many books with female leads, and they don’t come any more iconic than Diana,” said Louise Simonson. “Teaming her up with Lois Lane, another iconic character, is a dream come true. Throw in Granny Goodness and her Female Furies? It doesn’t get more fun than that.”
“Writing Wonder Woman, not just as part of the main series but during DC’s Year of Wonder, is both intimidating and exciting,” added Simonson. “Intimidating because my four-issue arc is sandwiched between the brilliant Tom King run and the work of the immensely talented, smart, and funny Stephanie Williams. Exciting because I get to work with artist Cian Tormey, who draws beautiful figures, exhilarating action, and subtle emotions with equal mastery. His pages are gorgeous!”

Following Simonson and Tormey’s four-issue story, writer Stephanie Williams and artist Elena Casagrande take the reins for an all-new six-issue arc continuing the Year of Wonder through October 2027. Williams is no stranger to the character having contributed four issues to DC’s Wonder Woman series earlier this year and co-writing Wonder Woman 2026 Annual: Wonder War – The Matriarch Special #1. Moreover, she also currently writes the DC GO! webcomic series Warriors and a Wee Wonder, which will soon transition to Warriors and a ’Tween Wonder.
Though full details of the storyline will be revealed closer to release date, Williams expressed immense excitement and even teased a team-up with Nubia:
“Diana has my whole heart,” shared Stephanie Williams, “so getting to come back to her world after Wonder Woman and Matriarch feels like coming home, only this time with a longer runway. Six issues gives me room to really sit with Diana, to let her be fierce and funny and compassionate all at once, and to let the story breathe in a way I’m so excited for readers to experience. Plus, I finally get to work in the Nubia team-up I’ve been wanting to tell for a long time, but this time they won’t be going to Las Vegas.”
“And I get to be in the main Wonder Woman series alongside Weezie? Louise is an absolute legend, and sharing this Year of Wonder with her is a full-circle, pinch-me moment,” continued Williams. “And then there’s Elena Casagrande, who is ridiculously talented. Few draw women quite like Elena does: gorgeous, powerful, and so full of life and movement. Getting to see her bring Diana and the Amazons to the page is a dream, and I can’t wait for everyone to see what she does.”
According to the publisher, more Wonder Woman stories and superstar creators will be revealed as DC’s Year of Wonder continues throughout 2027.
Wonder Woman #41 will feature a main cover by Ryan Sook and variant covers by Daniel Sampere, Walter Simonson, and Tormey. The issue also features a foil variant cover by David Nakayama and a Sweater Weather variant cover by Alexander Lozano. The 32-page issue arrives at participating comic book shops and digital retailers on January 20, 2027, for $4.99 US, with card stock variants available for $5.99 US.
