Welcome to this week’s installment of The Beat’s Comics Crowdfunding Round-Up! Come with us to check out a horror classic in a new medium, a new fantasy world, a comic book legends collection of artwork, and a mind-altering take on a famous artist.

Collaboration projects like these always give fans something to look forward to, in this case, another way to look into the movie that marked the transition of horror cinema from classic to modern. Horror fans will want this comic to be a part of their collection, and to any comic collector, it really is something special to have as a part of your library.

Found in the Forgotten: Issue #1

Found in the Forgotten: Issue #1

Creators: K. Temperance (Writer), Francesca Lecter (Artist), Marin (Letterist)
Goal: $10,000
End Date: December 31, 2023
Goodies: A physical edition, a digital copy, stickers, magnets, and tarot care leaves at the most.

Waking up with zero memory of who she once was, Theory finds herself suddenly thrown into a world where monsters lurk at every corner, and she might just be one of them. The Kingdom of Hollowcourt follows one simple rule: magic is no longer allowed. After the lands were ravaged by a war between arcane practitioners, survivors rebuilt society, practicing mundane science, technology, and invention. Though their feats are by no means mundane.

Unfortunately, Theory has already broken this rule by simply existing. Gifted with innate magic of unknown origins, she must now navigate determining her identity while remaining under the nose of the ever-watchful eyes of The System and learning who she can trust amongst a sea of snakes.

The artwork of Found in the Forgotten initially captured my attention. Discovering that this comic was a personal commitment made by K. Temperance to create the type of books that would truly honor the LGBTGIA+ relationship genre piqued my interest. The kind of relationship Temperance wished they had seen more of growing up as a young sapphic woman. It’s clear a lot of work went into this comic, and we at The Beat look forward to its release.

Russell’s work is breathtaking and known worldwide. A winner of multiple Harvey and Eisner awards, his work has inspired generations of artists, and most importantly, his work is something you want to have in your collection. So what better way to acquire his work than in an art book you get to keep and show to others? Creators: Created in partnership with Four Screens and officially authorized by the Estate of Ol’ Dirty Bastard, this graphic novel collection features new stories from Troy-Jeffrey Allen (Writer), Paris Alleyne (Artist), David Brame (Artist), and many more.
Goal: $10,000
End Date: January 11, 2023
Goodies: A digital copy, Kickstarter exclusive softcover edition, SUPER7® “LYRICAL RUCKUS VARIANT” FIGURE, a Kickstarter exclusive hardcover, and more!

A groundbreaking, genre-defying homage to ODB’s life and legacy – every bit as avant-garde as the maverick MC that inspired it.

Oni Press unleashes the raw, unfiltered world of hip-hop legend Ol’ Dirty Bastard in an electrifying new graphic novel anthology narrated by the icon himself. Experience the chaotic harmony in multiple interlocking stories that explore New York’s Five Boroughs as reimagined and distorted through the prism of high-octane kung fu, dystopian science fiction, darkness-haunted horror, and lovelorn romance… Plus, debuting exclusively with this campaign: Limited-edition Super7® action figures featuring a never-before-seen ODB “Lyrical Ruckus” Variant; an exclusive “Shimmy Shimmy Ya” 7″ vinyl single featuring all-new cover art by Ronald Wimberly (Prince of Cats); boutique merch; and much more.

Fans of ODB will want this graphic novel for their own collection; that’s a given. But what takes this graphic novel to the next level is taking ODB and plunging him into a story as a guide through a New York City where different neighborhoods have converged together from across the multiverse as specters roam the streets of queens and a rogue AI controls the Lower East Side. It is a story that we believe fans won’t want to miss. With amazing art and crazy stories, we at The Beat believe that this isn’t an ODB graphic novel, something that fans won’t want to miss out on.
