When last we saw Sabrina Spellman (Kiernan Shipka), her family, her witch peers, and her friends in April, Lilith (Michelle Gomez) became Queen of Hell after a dark, twisty series of events. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Part 2 covered more plot and handled more character growth than Part 1, and from the brief, 14-second teaser for Part 3 that Netflix shared on Saturday, it seems more of the same is coming down the pipeline.
In the teaser, Sabrina stands against a black backdrop, surrounded by fog, wearing a red, hooded cape — which has even more serious Red Riding Hood vibes than her usual wardrobe. As she stands, staring at the camera with a blank look on her face, a creepy voice says, “Welcome to Hell.”
In the text accompanying the teaser, the CAOS social media team wrote, “knock knock knock on the gates of hell. see you Jan 24, witches.”
Last season, the characters literally raised Hell, and seeing as Sabrina and the rest of the Church of Night sign their names in the Book of the Beast to gain full access to their powers when they turn 16, it makes sense that showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is taking us back to the underworld for Part 3.
Plus, now that Lilith is running the show, who knows how that will affect everyone’s magic, or their loyalties? The reveal of her true identity as Madam Satan was shrouded in drama, especially as she’s been a double agent all along — “helping” Sabrina in multiple attempts to undermine her efforts, in order to oust the teen witch from Satan’s affections. With Lilith at the top of the food chain, what will she do with her newfound power? Certainly nothing good, that’s for certain.
