With the annual Brazil Comic-Con aka Comic-Con Experience (CCXP) taking place this weekend, Warner Bros. used the opportunity to give those in the Southern Hemisphere a chance for the first look at next summer’s Wonder Woman 1984.

That first trailer, which will likely be in front of Star Wars: the Rise of Skywalker in a couple weeks, has now come online, so you can see what director Patty JenkinsGal Gadot and the rest of the cast get up to when the story is moved forward forty years from 2016’s Wonder Woman.

The new movie introduces Kristen Wiig as Wonder Woman’s arch-foe The Cheetah and Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian) as Max Lord – both depicted in new character posters below – while others like Chris PineRobin Wright and Connie Nielsen are back in their original roles from the first movie.

Before showing the trailer at CCXP, they showed a few brief words from Wiig, Pascal and Pine before Gadot came out to a massive response from the fans in front of a stage full of Wonder Woman cosplayers.

Gadot told the audience that Diana is lonely in 1984, having lost all of her friends, while still helping and saving mankind until “something crazy is about to happen to her.”

Jenkins chose 1984 to bring Wonder Woman into the modern world in a time period where she was hugely popular which leads to some of the new villains being introduced. She also mentioned that Wiig’s look as the Cheetah will be a combination of practical and CG FX.

The new trailer is cut to a cool version of New Order’s “Blue Monday” (of course), and it shows a lot of Pascal as Max Lord, and Diana and Pine’s Steve Trevor in action, though they seem to be saving The Cheetah for later.

Originally, the movie was going to be released last month, but Warner Bros. pushed it back to next summer for its June 5, 2020 release.
