Barnes & Nobles sales down, but people still love adult coloring books

B&N released its quarterly SEC filing, and sales were down in many business segments. However the adult coloring book craze continues to drive sales as people find a sense of well being and serenity in staying between the lines. PW's Jim Milliot has a succinct write up of the results:

If you were concerned that the next Avengers movie, Avenger: Infinity War, slated for 2018, would contain 150 Marvel characters and sacrifice drama, storytelling and memory storage to too many characters running around, rest easy: there will only be 100 characters in the film. That's because the Marvel Netflix character can't really cross over into the movies. This little tiddlebit was revealed by A:IW director Anthony Russo—one half of the Directin' Russo Brothers—who was being interviewed by a Portuguese outlet, and thought, as many have before him, that just because it was in a foreign language he could be be more candid than normal. Based on these photos, Comic Arts LA was swell

The second annual Comics Arts LA festival was held yesterday, in its first year as a two-day show. It's the Los Angeles stop on the Premiere Indie Comics Circuit, and had a strong influence from the local animation community, as befits its founders, Jen Wang, Angie Wang. Iris Jong and Jake Mumm, several of whom have ties to that community. While I haven't found any detailed write-ups, it seems like everyone was up on their socials, with happy photos of comics and people all backlit with the warm, golden sun of early winter downtown LA.

DC Super Hero Girls line gets a graphic novel: “Finals Crisis”

The DC Super Hero Girls franchise, which appears to my pretty darned toyetic, is moving right along, with the first print graphic novel announced: DC SUPER HERO GIRLS: FINALS CRISIS. As previously announced, it will be written by Shea Fontana, with art by Yancey Labat, colors by Monica Kubina, and lettering by Janice Chiang. The book goes on sale on July 6th.
