The Man of Steel Movie Trailer – A Somber Superman
If you didn't see the trailer for Man of Steel, the upcoming Zack Synder Superman film, in the previews before The Dark Knight Rises, the trailer has finally started turning up online. The trailer is bleak and somber in tone. It might be the whole film has this feel or it might be a deliberate attempt to differentiate a new project from the Richard Donner version the viewing public is familiar with (and that Bryan Singer was attempting to emulate in the last Superman film).
Iron Man 3 surprises fans at SDCC 2012
While this year's San Diego Comic Con was lighter on movies and heavier on TV then it has been in recent years, the Iron...
Ice Age Tops Spider-Man At The Pre-Dark Knight Box Office
While worlds of comics and movies were all in San Diego, the rest of the country still thought about going to movies. The latest Ice Age made a solid, if not spectacular, with $46M. Easy pickings for the only major release of the week. Here are the weekend estimates, according to Box Office Mojo:
SDCC 2012 – The Man of Steel Movie Poster
There's a new teaser poster for Man of Steel making the rounds at Comicon:
SDCC 2012 Marvel Movie Panel: Confirmations Galore
OK, so it's supposed to be the Iron Man 3 panel. And it is, but they started out by confirming a few thing for the second phase of the MCU. MCU? Marvel Cinematic Universe. What is there to be confirmed? Here's a handy list:
Quentin Tarantino Announces Django Unchained miniseries for Vertigo
Quentin Tarantino jumped onto the Before Watchmen panel today, ran around on the table, and announced a new 5-issue miniseries based on his new film, to be published by Vertigo.
Genre Film of the Moment: You Can Only Survive the Monsters If You're Blind...
A bit of film news out of Ireland, that I haven't heard coming out of Comicon... a film called "Grabbers." It sounds like Father Ted (or at least Father Jack) meets The Thing. A small Irish island community is beset by monsters and the only way you can survive them is to get good and drunk. (Hmmm... are these monsters threatening the Hyatt bar during comicon... it might explain a few things.)
SDCC12: Watchtower Thursday: Media Edition
Some linkage from today's Google News feed! So much stuff, I had to split it in twain! Here's the media stuff, along with some pictures and video!
The Dark Knight Rises – As Narrated By Pee Wee Herman
Props to Jimmy Fallon for bringing us this delightfully odd version of Batman.
All he had to do was take a recent trailer for The Dark Knight Rises and let Paul Reubens re-dub the dialogue in his Pee Wee Herman persona. The results are... well, see for yourself.
HMDD/SDCC2012: J. Michael Straczynski Creates Studio JMS
J. Michael Straczynski has announced the formation of a new studio which will create comics, films, TV, video games, more; also announces revival of his 'Joe's Comics' imprint for Image; next will create world peace before flying off into space, searching for more worlds to conquer.
Spider-Man Catches $140M In His Box Office Web, Then Holds His Breath
Amazing Spider-Man has gotten off to a decent launch. You can look at it two ways: the actual weekend is estimated at $65M (depending on the actual totals, it's just about at Brave's opening weekend total, $5M below The Lorax) or you can look at it having made $140M in a short week. Opening on a Tuesday during a holiday week is a little odd to compare to the rest of the year's field. That said, Avengers passed $140M on the second day of release. Hungers games took three days to pass $140M. So Spidey is looking strong, but not... well... amazing.
