Whedon-driven SHIELD pilot a go at ABC
Showing that they were anxious to pass the Hollywood IQ test about spinning off a popular movie into a TV show run by an experienced TV vet who also directed the popular movie, ABC has ordered a pilot for a SHIELD TV show, to be guided by AVENGERS director Joss Whedon, Deadline reports. Whedon will co-write the pilot along with brother Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen (who is Jed's wife). This is the trio responsible for Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, and other Whedon-verse projects, so get ready to start that letter writing campaign right now.
The Legal View: Ticket crashes and the Tardis
Ticketfails have become as much a part of fandom as slashfic and cosplay. While PR flubs and angry complaints get a fair bit of attention, the crash of ticket sales for last week’s promotion of a Doctor Who premiere in New York also illustrates the potential for legal problems.
A few thoughts on the legal dimension of online event ticketing — and why it matters — after the jump.
Robot Chicken DC Special trailer released
In the beloved tradition of their Star Wars and Green Lantern smash-ups, Robot Chicken is taking on the DCU, and here's the trailer. Clocking in at 2 minutes, that's more than 10% of the shows running time, so hopefully some jokes still await.
Calero and Stashwick writing Clandestine pilot for Syfy
While you often see comics getting optioned for film or TV, you don't usually see the creators of the comic involved in working on that project for film or TV. So here's an exception: Dennis Calero and Todd Stashwick are writing a sci-fi pilot called CLANDESTINE for Syfy. Calero is best known as an artist on countless comics from COWBOYS & ALIENS to X-MEN NOIR. Stashwick is best known as a actor on things from Heroes to The Riches. The two met on the set of HEROES, when Calero was doing art for the show and collaborated on the webcomic Devil Inside, which was optioned by Syfy and eventually led to them being assigned to write the pilot for this entirely new project.

Seriously, the PR is getting so weird it's getting hard to believe. Here's another offsite, this one at 1st street and J, which promotes COMA, a TV mini-series by Ridley and Tony Scott, by helping them go through the torment that people in Michael Crichton's original novel went thought via being "evaluated" for the tour and getting a surgery scar. Make sure you wear your brain-wave activated cat ears when you go through the surgery!
We're sure this will not be as fun as it sounds. Why couldn't there be a BLACK JACK carnival at Comic-Con instead?
Doctor Who + Diana Rigg = Going To Happen
Here's some news that broken prior to Comicon. Diana Rigg, best known for her time as Emma Peel on The Avengers (the British spy show Mark Waid will adapting for BOOM!, not the Marvel movie) will be appearing on Doctor Who. Come to find out, she's going to be doing an episode with her daughter, Rachel Stirling. That's pretty much another royal wedding.
