Just when you think the news is going to slow down for the weekend, we’ve got one more item of interest.
Warner Bros. has just released the first full costume shots of Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl in promotion of the upcoming new series.
Oscar-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood (Alice in Wonderland, Chicago, Memoirs of a Geisha), who created the new look, described her work:
In designing Supergirl, I wanted to embrace the past, but more importantly, thrust her into the street-style action hero of today
Atwood also designed the costumes for The Flash and Arrow.
The costume has a bit of the Man of Steel basketball-like textures in its blues, and I think the red leggings and boots look quite good. It could stand to be a bit brighter, but I won’t look a gift horse in the mouth here.
Production begins on the Supergirl pilot this week, from executive producers/writers Greg Berlanti, Ali Adler and Andrew Kreisberg. Sarah Schechter is also executive producing, with Glen Winter directing.
There’s something about her stance/pose that paints her as a pants-wearer, not a skirt wearer. Other than that, good to go.
I would have liked brighter colors, but the design is nice.
It’s Dark Supergirl!
Could be brighter, but we don’t know how the show is going to be shot yet. With the black background and dim lighting it looks really dark, but if the show is brighter lit and the backgrounds are less black it will probably look slightly less dark.
Dark? It looks gold and white to me.
Truth, justice, and the Irish Way?
With the reddish hair, she sort of looks Irish.
Imagine if the Kents were actually potato farmers and they were Vodka manufacturers making big bucks in the huge Metropolis of Dublin.
