SDCC11: Yoe! Books!

0
Given the huge crowds at Comic-Con International, it's not surprising that an artist or publisher will promote The Latest and Greatest at the show. With all the buzz, the media, the fans... it's an excellent opportunity for a publisher to debut something amazing, something they hope will generate a lot of interest and lead to sales through the holiday season. So regular con-goers shouldn't be surprised that Craig Yoe, Eisner-Award winning author and designer, will have a new book to showcase. Not only are his history books beautifully designed and researched, but they are also fun to read. He even finds little gems, like Elvis reading a copy of "Betty and Veronica", to spice up his books.

SDCC11: CBLDF has t-shirts, posters, perfume, party, auction

The Beat endorses the CBLDF -- the freedom you save may be your own. Clothe yourself, smell good, bid on some great art and then hang out at one of the best parties Comic-Con has to offer.

The Comic-Con Virgin Diaries: Ali C. Day 2

The Comic-Con Virgin Diaries: Nate C. Day 2

So as you’re reading this, I’m either on Delta flight 547 eating a Clif Bar, or I’ve already landed in beeyootiful San Diego, California. Figured I should get there a few days before SDCC, see some sights, see if San Diego PBR tastes different from New York PBR. The convention experience has evolved for me throughout the years. I’ve had four cycles:

SDCC11: Exhibit A Press

Exhibit A Press is publishing its first-ever full-color book: The Life-Partner of Frankenstein: A Supernatural Law Book by Batton Lash (60 pages, $10.95).

SDCC11: Ponent Mon

Can there ever be enough Jiro Taniguchi? Not really -- and a new book is on its way for Comic-Con:

SDCC11: The vastly overblown spectacle has already begun

0
Apparently people are ALREADY LINED UP for the Twilight Panel on Thursday. I hope they found a place to pee! Also, the Hilton wrap, as expected, is COWBOYS & ALIENS. So much for Universal getting spooked by SCOTT PILGRIM. With the big red carpet premiere and this it shows that huge displays at Comic-Con are like Pringles --you can't have just one.

SDCC11: What if you have to pee?

Meanwhile, over at the Unofficial Comic-Con live journal, Twi-Hards are worried they will have to hold it for days while camping out.

Where do you go to the bathroom if you're camping out?

SDCC11: What if you have to eat?

0
One of the greatest joys of Comic-Con is the quest for food, as regular Beat readers know. From a filling lunch consisting of a handful of carrots to a hearty dinner of clawing at the last crumbs of chips at the Wired Cafe happy hour, Comic-Con is a food orgy for the hardworking folks at Stately Beat Manor. Luckily some people have a clearer idea of where to go to grab a bite. The folks at CCI haveput up an exhaustive list of restaurants, including many con specials where you need to just show your badge to get extra goodies or a discount. The locals love Comic-Con --it's official!

SDCC11: Video Games take it to the streets

0
Do you even NEED to go inside the convention hall any more? Besides Tr!ckster, the comic book pavilion, Cirque Du Soleil, a South Park carnival and all the other hoohah, video games are setting up camp on the streets of San Diego big time, Forbes reports:
