After an hour discussing Final Fantasy, Square Enix premiered footage of the long-anticipated Avengers game. It featured the opening of an Avengers Tower on the West Coast followed by battles and bantering among the heroes. What followed was a world turned to ruin. Based on a conversation between Bruce Banner and Tony Stark, they’re to blame for the fallout.
Bill Rosemann and the lead developer for Crystal Dynamics came on stage to announce that you can play as Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, and, of course, Iron Man.
The cast of Marvel’s Avengers appeared in a pre-recorded video, immediately joking about being less famous than their film counterparts. But the cast includes some of the best actors in the video game industry such as Troy Baker and Nolan North. Even if you don’t recognize them, they’ll make Avengers a better game than a familiar name from Hollywood ever could.
Based on what we learned from the debut of the Avengers game, it’s somewhat similar to what I predicted. I didn’t foresee the online co-op, though. Fans were concerned when rumors about online play leaked, but Square Enix scored a lot of points by promising not to sell loot boxes or go heavy on microtransactions.
The publisher announced that Marvel’s Avengers releases on May 15, 2020. Check out the cinematic and release date trailers below.
