After receiving nearly 250 entries, Dynamite Comics has announced the winner of the publisher’s Vampirella fan art contest—Alex Ogle. The artist will have his stunning, shadowy piece published in Vampirella #2 by writer Christopher Priest and artist Ergün Gündüz due out August 21, which is the same issue featuring a cover by acclaimed artist Stanley “Artgerm” Lau.

The new ongoing series for the company’s flagship heroine made history before the first issue even hit stores, selling out more than 130,000 units and making it one of the publisher’s top-selling books to date. The first issue also provided gorgeous covers by high-caliber artists like Frank Cho, Alex Ross, Joe Jusko, Guillem March, and Adam Hughes. With July 2019 being the Summer of Vampirella and the character’s 50th anniversary, the success was the perfect complement to her birthday celebration.

Entries for the contest ran the gamut, with old and new fans sending in their best pieces for consideration. Because of the impressive art that came through, Dynamite will now showcase a new piece for each monthly issue of the flagship Vampirella title moving forward. Runner-ups and standout artists who submitted will be contacted shortly by Dynamite staff. They will even keep their eyes open for new contributions from the character’s devout fanbase. Who knows? You may be the next great artist to draw the Daughter of Drakulon professionally alongside names like Jose Gonzalez, Amanda Conner, Joe Jusko, Mike Mayhew, Joseph Michael Linsner, and more.
