IDW is rolling out a truly epic crossover. Early Thursday morning, the My Little Pony fansite Equestria Daily revealed details for an upcoming IDW graphic novel featuring two iconic properties: Transformers and My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. The book is entitled My Little Pony/Transformers and features the autobots and decepticons meeting the residents of Equestria, thanks to a spell cast by Queen Chrysalis. The book will be written by Ian FlynnJames Asmus, and Sam Maggs, with art Casey W.
Coller, Jack Lawrence, Sara Pitre-Durocher, Priscilla Tramontano, and Tony Fleecs (who also provides cover artwork for the entirety of the series).

Asmus confirmed the news on Twitter, writing, “TRANSFORMERS MEETS MY LITTLE PONY!! Writing this has been PURE JOY! And I sincerely think you’ll get a big kick out of it, if youre [sic] a fan of either one — or just oddball crossovers in general.”

In a press release from IDW, the publisher revealed that My Little Pony/Transformers will be a four-issue mini-series launching in May, with the collected edition reportedly hitting stores in November.

“The writing I’ve gotten to do individually for My Little Pony and Transformers have already proven to be some of the most fun I’ve had in my career, so it’s pure joy to play them off each other,” Asmus said in a statement. “We’re making a wild mash-up unlike anything else in your comic collection. You basically owe it to yourself and your future happiness to get a copy!”

Also in a statement, Flynn added, “It’s been a delightful challenge finding common threads between the ponies and bots. It’s certainly a fun and unique opportunity. I hope fans of both franchises can come together and enjoy this.”

My Little Pony and Transformers are two of my all-time favorite universes. Having written for them both previously, the idea of bringing the citizens of Equestria and Cybertron together is incredibly exciting,” Maggs said, also in a statement.

IDW Editor-In-Chief John Barber said this crossover has been a longtime coming: “Teaming Transformers and My Little Pony has been a dream we’ve had for a long time. We’re all really excited to see this mashup of characters by a mashup of creators who are honoring the legacy of both universes… and doing it in the most bonkers, fun way imaginable!”

According to the plot synopsis, Queen Chrysalis’ spell brings the autobots and decepticons into the heart of Equestria, where Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Rarity, Fluttershy, Applejack, Spike, and their friends fight evil through the power of friendship on a regular basis. Here’s the full summary:

Ponies, Autobots, and Decepticons mix it up in this graphic novel mashup!

When Queen Chrysalis casts a spell looking for more changelings, she accidentally interferes with a malfunctioning Spacebridge! What’s this mean for our favorite fillies? There are suddenly a bunch of Autobots and Decepticons in Equestria! And as the dust settles, Rarity and Arcee find themselves teaming up against a hostile Decepticon force.

Plus Spike and Grimlock; Pinkie Pie, Gauge, and Shockwave; Fluttershy, Discord, and Soundwave; Rainbow Dash and Windblade; and Optimus Prime and Twilight Sparkle all team up for more adventures.

This is going to be absolutely bananas, in the best way possible. IDW is no stranger to epic crossovers with its licensed titles, but bringing Transformers and My Little Pony together is a stroke of pure genius.

My Little Pony/Transformers will be available at your local comic shop on a weekly basis starting in May. The collected trade is slated for release on Nov. 3, 2020. Check out the cover art for issue #1 below.
