If you’re looking for some great digital comics, Top Shelf is launching a big sale on some of their best titles. Call it their “virtual” comic-con:

The biggest comic-book event of the year has arrived, and Top Shelf is celebrating like never before. Comic-Con International is in San Diego tonight through Sunday, but you don’t have to be in San Diego to participate — all you need is a computer screen, tablet, or smartphone.

Today, we’re launching digital editions of our greatest new graphic novels. On top of that, from now through Sunday, July 15, we’re slashing prices on dozens of digital comics whose authors are appearing at Comic-Con — including some of our most beloved books.
Top Shelf digital comics are available in a variety of formats, including Comixology, Apple iBooks, iVerse Comics Plus, Google Play, Nook, Kobo, and more! They can be read on your computer, Apple iOS device, or Android device, as well as many e-readers.

  1. You know you buy too many digital comics when… you buy Essex County during a sale and you still haven’t caught up on reading enough to get around to it the next time it’s on sale.

  2. I’m really impressed with a lot of Top Shelf’s digital publishing, more than most publishers. With a few exceptions, they seem to start their pricing at about half of the print price for the same material and go down from there, sometimes by a lot, which I think is reasonable. And it looks like they see $9.99 as a maximum price, which makes sense to me. And they deal with multiple platforms, so you can pick your favourite (in my case, that looks like it’s Comixology for now). And they realize the value of an occasional sale. I just spent less than $20 and got three Eddie Campbell books and a complete set of Owly.
