Titans is now 4 episodes deep, and I haven’t watched a lick of it, but seems to have fairly vacillating reviews…go to Rotten Tomatoes and it’s a nice 84%, go to Metacritic and it’s more like 55%. I’m not sure what to read into that, but certainly its indicative of a real divide among critical consensus.

For my part, I’ll plan on kicking things off with Doom Patrol, which has a really promising cast and falls much further into my areas of interest, but right behind it is the James Wan produced Swamp Thing, which in my circles grabbed the greatest amount of attention when the initial DC Universe announcement finally came back in the summer.

There’s been a few casting announcements already for the series, including Crystal Reed as Abby Arcane, Jennifer Beals playing Sheriff Lucilia Cable (Matt’s mom), and Virginia Madsen as Maria Sunderland with Will Patton as Avery Sunderland.

But DC announced today who would be playing the central figure, and just as was done in the old Wes Craven film, we’ll have two men occupying that role – Andy Bean, who will appear in the upcoming IT: Chapter 2, will be stepping in to play a pre-transformed Alec Holland, while Derek Mears is set to play Swamp Thing himself. Mears is a big creature makeup guy, with his biggest appearance having been as Jason Voorhees in Friday the 13th (the reboot), he also played the Kree Captain on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

The only BIG role left to be cast, provided he appears this season, would be Anton Arcane. Though I wouldn’t be sad if they decided to bring in a new version of John Constantine too, but perhaps Jeryl Prescott’s Madame Xanadu might play a similar role.

Swamp Thing is set to debut in 2019 on DC Universe
