The Next Level Initiative that DC Comics began this year, helmed by Scott Snyder and Joshua Williamson, has been a beacon of creativity and revitalization, breathing new life into overlooked characters while expanding the stories being told across the DC Universe. So it’s no surprise that after the stellar year of publishing, DC was going to bring the heat at New York Comic Con to let fans know what’s to come in 2027.

The first big announcement we got was Swamp Thing: Hallowed Ground. A brand-new series written by Steve Foxe with art by Riccardo Federici. Set to arrive in 2027, the series was presented by Williamson as one for the longtime fans of Swamp Thing.

Next up, we were given a new look at Shadow of the Bat from Deniz Camp and Javier Rordriquez. Previously announced at SDCC, we learned a bit more about how this is a story about helping the people of today.

Then we got more info about the upcoming release of Vixen, written by Stephanie Williams with art by Khary Randolph. The story will kick off with a brand new villain, as well as a new love interest from the Bat-Family. It was also announced that cover artists W. Scott Forbes, David Nakayama, and Jock will be contributing to the series.

We then heard from Cody Ziglar about the upcoming Static series. Ziglar commented that Virgil hasn’t been showing up much lately, and this new series will fix that. He also spoke on how he read the official Dakota Universe bible, and it recontextualized his goals for the title.

Also! It has now been revealed that Starfire is getting a brand new series from Alyssa Wong and Belén Ortega. The series was pitched as “Red Sonja meets One Piece”, and Wong teased Starfire’s sister, Blackfire, being in the mix. The series is coming in April of 2027.

Finally, we got the announcement that, after his breakout inclusion in DC K.O. and the recent filling in for the Man of Steel in the pages of Superman, it’s primetime once again in the pages of the Superboy Prime Special #1, written by Joshua Williamson with art by Dan Mora.

Stay tuned to The Beat for more news from NYCC ’26.
