Dark Horse Books and Albatross Funnybooks announced this morning that Eric Powell’s The Goon will be returning with new library edition reprints starting March 2027. These new reprints also seem to feature a slightly smaller trim size that Dark Horse’s previously oversized publications. Albatross, Powell’s self-started publishing company turned imprint, joined the Dark Horse lineup in 2022. Albatross and Powell also published Dr. Werthless: The Man Who Studied Murder (And Nearly Killed The Comics Industry) through Dark Horse Books and will also be relaunching Powell’s Hillbilly series this fall with The Treason of Twelve-Toe Maggie limited series.
The first printing of the library editions of The Goon were originally published between 2015 and 2017 but have been out of print. This new edition features new cover art and trade dress but collects the same material from The Goon volumes 0 through 3. Interestingly, the first printing of the The Goon Library Editions has a trim size of 8.3” by 12.5”. This is in line with Dark Horse’s previously published library editions which typically feature a trim size around the 8” by 12.5” area. According to the press release this new edition, “will collect the award-winning crime-pulp series in a new size, 7” x 10”.” This new size makes it smaller than Dark Horse’s other library editions.

From the press release,
The Nameless Man, the Zombie Priest, has come to town to build a gang from the undead. Yet even with an unlimited supply of soldiers, the Priest cannot move in on the territory controlled by the crime boss Labrazio and his unstoppable enforcer—the Goon. But when the Priest discovers the Goon’s most closely held secret, the balance of power threatens to change forever!
Volume 1 collects The Goon Volumes 0–3.
Volume 1 of The Goon Library Edition will release on March 2, 2027 and retail for $59.99. Volumes 2 through 5 will follow throughout 2027 and 2028.
