Disney gung ho for Marvel, all the way to D23– UPDATED

0
With Disney's D23 Expo coming up in a few days, the Mouse is priming the pump for some possible Marvel-related announcements. At the Television Critics Association press tour, ABC president Paul Lee confirmed that the AKA Jessica Jones and Guillermo del Toro=produced Hulk pilots are still in the works, saying both were being "aggressively" developed. He also dropped some arcane hints about...Castle?

William Shatner and Adam West — together for one glorious moment

We've suggested here several times that if someone wants to make some easy money, get Adam West and William Shatner together in a movie as retired detectives who just wander around saying things. Admit it! You would listen to West's mahogany stylings and Shatner's stentorian cadences non-stop!

The Wonder Woman pilot: 30 more seconds

The rejected Wonder Woman pilot, starring Adrianne Palicki as Wonder Woman, is making the rounds on the mysterious black market of such things in Hollywood. But until the omerta it is being supplied with is lifted, we'll have to do with these dribs and drabs. Thoughts: Palicki loooks fine. The costume looks okay. Maybe this could have worked?

Get your Tyrion Lannister T-shirt!

Although right now you might want to support the valiant Stark clan with a Robb Stark T-shirt -- one of three Game of Thrones character shirts now on sale at HBO.com-- who can resist Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister, the cunning, caustic, hard-living, altogether irresistible member of the scheming, incestuous house of Lannister? Plus, New Jersey-born Dinklage is one of the few US actors who can keep up with the acting chops of the largely British cast. Clan Morristown!

There wasn’t a whole lot about the pilot that I didn’t like.

Amazing, Beautiful, Amazing: Who will win American Idol???

0
This is so not comics, but the Final Three go at it tonight and we'd been saving up some notes. We started watching American Idol a few years ago because we felt the need to pay attention to a least one thing that wasn't nerdy but instead reflected the more mundane and/or inane side of culture -- something universal, just so when we had to hang out with normal people we wouldn't be entirely defenseless. Plus former judges Simon and Kara talked about music a little and it was interesting. But that was then. This season's judges, Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez excel at nothing but praise, blather and administering something called the "amazing" scale:

ABC and Marvel team up for Castle's DERRICK STORM

0
Did you know that Disney owned Marvel Comics? You do now, as Marvel is putting out a licensed comic from the ABC show Castle, which stars nerdlebrity godhead Nathan Fillion as a mystery writer who also solves crimes. The GN. will not be an adapttaion of the show, however, but a story about Castle's best-selling character, Derrick Storm. Tellingly, this will not be a periodical, but a standalone graphic novel, due in September, written by Brian Michael Bendis and Kelly Sue DeConnick with art by Lan Medina and a cover by Carlo Pagulayan.

Weekend movie rewind: Silver Surfer, cat whisperer, Neil Gaiman's Doctor Who, Pirates III, etc.

If you follow our Twitter feed - and who doesn't! - you know we're been having lots of computer problems. We'll share our exciting process when it's finished, and hopefully successful (for the moment we have to use our travel backup) but it's already taken up the whole weekend, which, what with FMB being out of town for a (from what we hear) very successful signing at Black Cat Comics in Salt Lake City, we slaved away all weekend with a steady background of whatever happened to be on the TV, giving us a chance to rewind with a fine selection of films from our nerd heritage collection and a few new gems as well.
