NYCC Announcements: Vertigo Goes Simultaneous Print/Digital Release – Or – Get Used To It
Over on the Vertigo blog, we find an announcement that Vertigo's titles are starting to be released simultaneously in both print and digital ("day and date" is an insipid phrase; let's all stop using it).
CCS Library saved from hurricane
This morning Tom Spurgeon had the dramatic story of the CCS Library being threatened by a flood. Seen above in more idyllic times, the Charles Schulz LIbrary is part of the Center for Cartoon Studies campus in White River Junction, VT, and as the name suggests, it is located close to a river, which in the Irene aftermath, flooded its banks.

Artist Phil Yeh is a familiar sight at comics and books shows, painting murals as part of his "Cartoonists Across the World" literacy campaign which he's been doing for over 20 years.
MEANWHILE: DC confirms Retroactive teams — UPDATED
Over at The Source, DC is releasing more info on Retroactive, a series of retro one-shots by classic teams starting in July. No final art has been released yet -- the image of Superman below is just style guide art.
Casey and Dragotta team for Marvel VENGEANCE event
With comics periodical sales slogging along, many have said it's time to throw things against the wall and see what sticks -- Marvel is at least giving a nod towards this by announcing an event called VENGEANCE by Joe Casey and Nick Dragotta. Launching as a six-issue miniseries in July, VENGEANCE will take on the Marvel U's bad guys in a fresh fashion, introducing both revamped versions of younger evil-doers along with classic Marvel villains.
"We're going to the Sixth Dimension, Hitler's Germany, an insane nightclub, and a homeless shelter," Dragotta said—of the first eight pages.

Moving on to the fast approaching Stumptown, Floating World is debuting a new issue of DIAMOND, with a cover by Paul Pope and other good stuff. Jason Leivian writes:
Radical returns to Diamond for book distribution
After a year-long stint with Random House as their book distributor, Radical Publishing is back at Diamond, we are told by press release.
The announcement is a bit of a no-brainer, considering that Radical was at last month's Diamond Retailer Summit.

Over at Warren Ellis's blog, a preview of HALF MOON, a new collaboration with Michael Avon Oeming that will feature a space girl:
DC's First Wave line ending?
There are some well-sourced rumblings out there that DC is ending its First Wave line. The First Wave books centered around several pulp heroes, including Doc Savage, The Spirit, the Blackhawks, and Rima the Jungle Girl.
The reason isn't entirely clear, but the stand alone DOC SAVAGE and SPIRIT books were selling below 10K copies, which is well into the danger zone on today's comics.

A fire broke out on NYC's St. Marks St. this morning, in the same building as St. Marks Comics:
DC ditches Comics Code for video game-like rating system
Over on the various DC blogs, Jim Lee and Dan DiDio have announced that DC is pulling out of the Comics Code in favor of a multi-layer ratings system:
Publishing news: Archie's first OGN to take advantage of deal with Random House
Archie is going to publish its first OGN -- and its in the foolproof "Archie Babies" format. Mike Kunkel (Billy Batson and the Magic of Shazam) writes and Art Mawhinney does the art. The project was previously announced as a regular comics series but the new format allows them take advantage of Archie's new distribution deal with Random House, says co-CEO Jon Goldwater:
