This June Dark Horse Comics will publish Summer Fires, a new English translation of cartoonist Giulia Sagramola‘s coming-of-age graphic novel. Translated by Brahm Revel, the book follows a pair of teenaged sisters over the course of a few months. Today The Beat is pleased to present an exclusive excerpt of the book.

In Giulia Sagramola’s first long-form graphic novel, we follow the story of two sisters, Rachel and Sylvia, as they come of age in a typical Italian town. The two find themselves faced with the tough choices of teenaged life, which mirror the fires in the surrounding hillsides of the town, as one decision or another leads to unsettled feelings and desires.
This wonderfully and meticulously illustrated tale takes all of the consternation and heartbreak we know too well from teenaged life, and puts it on display in a beautiful and subdued package.
Sagramola’s graphic novel was originally published by Italian publisher Bao Publishing in 2015 as Incendi Estivi. It’s the latest international title to come to English language audiences from Dark Horse Comics. Other recently-translated titles include Frédéric Brrémaud and Paola Antista‘s Cats! series, and Pablo Monforte and Laura Perez‘s Castaways.
