Saturday night at San Diego Comic-Con’s DC Universe panel didn’t disappoint as fans were given a peek into the programming updates for the digital subscription service. The first major announcement to come from the panel: critically acclaimed series Doom Patrol will get a second season, thanks to a deal made with HBO Max.
Executive producer Jeremy Carver and series star Diane Guerrero were present and happy to also reveal that the new — as well as the original — episodes of the series are set to debut simultaneously on both DC Universe and HBO Max, WarnerMedia’s forthcoming streaming service.
That means it will be at least a few months before Doom Patrol season two debuts, since HBO Max is currently slated for a 2020 release. Still, given concerns about the future of the DC Universe streaming service after troubles surrounding the Swamp Thing production, which was cut short and then canceled in the spring, followed by the announcement of DC Universe content on HBO Max, it’s a relief to know that it’s sticking around, at least for now.
