As part of the launch of the new shared universe of Godzilla comics known as the “Kai-Sei Era,” IDW Publishing debuted Starship Godzilla, a series from writer Chris Gooch and artist Oliver Ono that followed a team of spacefaring mercenaries aboard their starship, the S.S. Mechagodzilla. As previously announced by the publisher, the adventures of the ragtag space crew will continue a followup sequel series entitled Starship Godzilla: Invasion X from the same creative team.
The Beat is proud to exclusively reveal preview pages for Starship Godzilla: Invasion X #1. The issue will be available in stores next month on October 14, 2026 with pre-orders due this Monday, September 7, 2026.
Fans can expect big things right from the start of the first issue, including a redesign and upgrade for the Mechagodzilla now sporting a sleek and bold red paint job plus a few new surprises up its sleeves. Writer the Chris Gooch teased, “New kaiju, new upgrades, new planets! Please check out our second STARSHIP GODZILLA mini-series, coming out October! Issue one will get you up to speed (though the vol 1 trade is out now, too) and we’re aiming to push everything to an even bigger scale for the finale!”
Even if you’re a Godzilla fan who has never picked up a comic before, now is the perfect time to enter the Kai-Sei Era and experience a whole new take on the King of the Monsters.
