The Great Comics Job Shuffle of  2018 continues as Steve Rotterdam, formerly of DC Comics and currently at The Bonfire Agency (which he co-founded), has joined AfterShock as SVP Sales and Marketing. Rotterdam replaces Mike Zagari, who left a few weeks back to join AMC.

He will continue to run the Bonfire Agency along side his AfterShock duties.

Rotterdam has a three decade background in all the skills you’d need for the position, inincluding content, marketing, branding, licensing, and all the work he’s done at Bonfire: helping brands establish and deepen connections to comic culture and its varied communities of superfans.

“In only three short years, AfterShock has solidified its status as a power player within the comics landscape, and Steve’s wealth of marketing experience, combined with the educated, strategic risks he’s demonstrated throughout his career, makes him the perfect fit to lead our sales and marketing efforts,” said Mike Marts, AfterShock’s Editor-in-Chief in a statement. “I enjoyed several years of working alongside Steve at DC Comics and I’m looking forward to continuing that run of success and innovation here.”

“As both a marketer and life-long comics fan, I’ve been impressed with what Mike, Joe, Lee and Jon have established at AfterShock and with how quickly, yet methodically, they’ve grown in just three years,” said Rotterdam in his own matching statement.  “I’m both thrilled and humbled to join them and the rest of the team to build upon this success. There is such tremendous potential to be unleashed here – for fans, for creators, for the retail community – and I’m excited to do just that.”

Not content to remain silent, Joe Pruett, AfterShock’s Publisher and CCO, added, “AfterShock has grown steadily and smartly during our short, yet accomplished publishing history. Adding a distinguished and experienced executive such as Steve Rotterdam as our new SVP of Sales and Marketing only emphasizes the expectations for our future growth with our distributors, retailers and fans.”
