Dear-BasketBall

Over the Memorial Day Weekend the annual Reuben Awards were presented and animator Glen Keane won The Reuben for cartoonist of the year. Best known for his groundbreaking animation for Disney (includingThe Little MermaidBeauty and the BeastAladdinPocahontasTarzan and Tangled), and his oscar winning short Dear Basketball.  Keane is also a second generation winner, as his father Bil Keane previously won the award for his Family Circus comic strip – which Glen might have inspired a bit!

The Reubens are presented by the National Cartoonists Society at their annual fete held over the holiday weekend.

Other winners before but Emil Ferris continues her sweep with a win in the best graphic novel category. (via The Daily Cartoonist)

  1. Hmmm, does this make Glen Keane the first Oscar winner to win The Reuben? Couldn’t happen to a better artist!
