Casting is moving quickly on Marvel Studios’ planned The Eternals movie, helmed by Chloe Zhao (The Rider). Already cast are Angelina Jolie and Kumail Nanjiani, as well as Korean actor Ma Dong-Seok. Now, there’s word that Game of Thrones’ star Richard Madden is in talks to join the Jack Kirby-created team of Gods as their leader Ikaris.
The Scottish stage and television actor appeared as Robb Stark in the first few seasons of HBO’s Game of Thrones, but since then, he’s starred in shows like Bodyguard and Medici.  He played the prince in Disney’s 2015 Cinderella and will also appear in the upcoming Elton John biopic Rocketman, out May 31.
Created by Kirby in 1976, the Eternals are a team of superheroes who protect Earth from a group of evil beings known as Deviants. Both the Eternals and Deviants were created by an ancient and mystical race of giant beings known as Celestials.
It’s been assumed that Jolie will play Sersi, who started out as a member of the Eternals but later joined the Avengers, at least in the comics. Nanjiani and Dong-Seok’s roles haven’t been identified yet, but the Eternals are a fairly vast group that includes the likes of Thena, Ajak, Sprite, Makkari and more, each with their own distinct look and powers.
There’s been word that Marvel and Zhao want to feature the first openly-gay superhero in the group and plan to cast an openly gay actor to play him or her, but there has been no further details on these plans.
