Brought to you by writer Tim Seeley (Grayson, Revival, and Hack/Slash), co-scripter and comedian Sarah Beattie, and artist Rebekah Isaacs (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel & Faith), the story centers on Christine Ocampos, inventor of the Star Shot teleportation device. When money is short and the patience of her science team is running out, she devises a plan to raise money and morale, but this plan includes engaging very intimately with local aliens and then broadcasting their sexual exploits on the internet for anyone looking for creative, interplanetary porn. Colorist Kurt Michael Russell (Hack/Slash, Glitterbomb) and letterer Crank! (Rick and Morty, Curse Words) complete the creative team.
From the first panel, the provocative comic sets the bawdy tone of the whole series. Definitely for a mature audience, there are naughty words and even naughtier positions, but the story goes deeper than alien porn. While there is a fun, cheeky vibe (and maybe a little boundary pushing), there are also relatable human characters looking for the same things anyone else would be seeking: solid relationships, love, respect, success in life, and, yes, a decent roll in the hay.
Seeley and Beattie’s dialogue is funny and natural, and the characters have a distinct voice right from the start. The art is bright, adding to the lighthearted atmosphere of the plot. Overall the first two issues were thoroughly entertaining and there is certainly a deeper story brewing underneath the moans, sighs, camera angle planning, and dirty talk.
Money Shot #1 is slated to release on October 23. The issue will have a Vault Vintage B Cover by Nathan Gooden and Tim Daniel that pays tribute to John Byrne and Joe Sinnott’s iconic cover to Fantastic Four #220 (Marvel Comics, 1980).
