Marvel Comics has revealed Fugitive X-Force, a five-issue series picking up after Inglorious X-Force this winter. Written by Inglorious scribe Tim Seeley, with art by recent Marvel Art Atelier program graduate Áthila Fabbio (Back to the Future), the book will see Tabitha Smith/Boom-Boom take over leadership of the team after Cable disappears. Along with Archangel, Hellverine, Domino, and Ms. Marvel, they must find him before it’s too late.
The full synopsis reads, “When X-Force discovers that their leader Cable’s mind had been compromised, a new leader arises! Boom-Boom takes over the team for the first time, but it couldn’t be under worse circumstances: X-Force has been framed for a horrific crime! As they run for their lives from, well, everyone, Domino searches for Cable, but she might not like what she finds!”
Seeley comments, “Fugitive X-Force is a natural extension of Inglorious, following up with the ramifications of the events of that series, with the militant, mutant strikeforce forced to pick up the pieces and move on. But now, they’re on their own, wanted for murder, and hanging on by a thread. But, they’ve got something going for them, TABITHA SMITH — NEW LEADER! Boom-Boom has years of experience watching Cable work. She’s his best pupil in blowing things up… and she also looks great in very big shoulder pads.”
Fabbio adds, “I grew up in the ‘90s, so Wolverine and Nightcrawler were my favorite characters — until I saw Cable! I’m entering the world of X-Force with the same excitement I felt back then. I’m so grateful to Marvel that this is my first series — and to God for letting me live this dream of mine. I’m having a blast working with Tim Seeley and drawing what unfolds on these pages, and I hope readers enjoy it too! I am especially loving drawing Boom-Boom!”
Tabitha was created by Jim Shooter and Al Milgrom, and first appeared in 1985’s Secret Wars II #5. The character, who’s derived her various codenames over the years from her explosive superpowers, was a member of the New Mutants who founded X-Force with Cable in 1991. Other members of Fugitive‘s roster have been part of the team’s various incarnations over the years, with Daken/Hellverine and Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel both joining during the Inglorious run.
Issue #1 will be released on December 9, while issues #9-10 of Inglorious X-Force will arrive on September 9 and October 21. The main cover is being provided by Eric Canete, while Mark Bagley, Pere Pérez, and Gerardo Sandoval created the variant covers.
