On her panel at SDCC, Raina Telgemeier announced some info on her next book: it’s called

Drama!

It’s about middle school theater geeks, stage crew, putting on a play, love and hate and friendship, and that’s all I can talk about for now.

The book hits Fall 2012, and weighs in at 240 full-color pages. As with her previous SMILE, Scholastic/Graphix is the publisher. Some process art, above.

SMILE has been a consistent hit with kids, as it explores issues of growing up and self image. DRAMA! sounds like more of the same, with the theater background that kids love so much. Solid.

  1. I’m looking forward to this. My daughters are absolutely thrilled.

As my wife commented, “If you made Sydney (our eldest) a focus group of one, and asked what Raina should do as a follow-up to SMILE, the answer would be, ‘Middle schoolers putting on a play.'”

Fall 2012 can’t come fast enough for her.

  2. I haven’t met many comics people, but Raina was probably the nicest.

Hadn’t read any of her work beforehand, but I rectified that and can’t wait for this.

  3. Cool! I love love love Raina’s books, and can’t wait for this one to come out! I’m crossing my fingers that I’ll get an ARC of it sooner or later!
