Valiant is the king of the limited-series event. They tend to stay within 4-issues and are mostly self-contained. They are easy to follow, rich in lore, and don’t breed clumsy tie-ins. You could make a movie out of any one of them (especially Book of Death) and the result would still be a high-concept story anyone can get into. Next up in Valiant events is Incursion, by Andy Diggle, Alex Paknadel, and Doug Braithwaite.
The series will focus on an invasion that threatens to break the barriers between our reality and the Deadside. Characters like Shadowman, Ninjak, and the upcoming Punk Mambo have a history with this realm, being that it is a place governed by the supernatural that’s just dying to break into the realm of the living. Story arcs involving the Deadside echo classic horror ideas and flavors them with H.P. Lovecraft’s own brand of cosmic terror.
On top of all that you have Doug Braithwaite’s panoramic art, which turns each panel into a showcase of drama. Braitwaithe has amassed an impressive body of work with these type of stories, Unity, Armor Hunters, and Imperium among them. You could say he speaks Valiant well.
