Over on his Tumblr page, writer Kieron Gillen has shared the first nine pages of Peter Cannon: Thunderbolt #1, his new series from Dynamite Entertainment. The series is written by Gillen, with art by Casper Wijngaard and Mary Safro, and lettering by Hassan Otsane-Elhaou. The pages depict a world at war amidst an otherworldly invasion, and the heroes of three nations approaching Cannon to request aid.

Peter Cannon was created by cartoonist Pete Morisi back in 1966. The character’s adventures were originally published by Charlton Comics, and later by DC Comics, before moving over to Dynamite in the early 2010s. Raised in a monastery and taught to unlock the full potential of his brain power, Cannon was famously the inspiration of Watchmen‘s Ozymandias.

Check out the preview pages below, and look for Peter Cannon: Thunderbolt #1 in stores in January.

  1. I’m definitely interested in this one, but I am curious about why the art is so decompressed in these first 9 pages. The first 5 pages alone are single panels. Hopefully it’s just to introduce the setting and characters.
