Sometimes school is hard. But that’s why we have magic cats. Or at least that’s the case in KaBOOM!’s latest graphic novel, Jo & Rus; the debut middle grade comic from cartoonist and illustrator Audra Winslow and letterer Mike Florentino. It was previously announced back in January, but now we’ve got a ten page preview for you to check out, too.

Jo & Rus follows – well the people whose names are in the title! They’re two unlikely best friends figuring out how to deal with school and people who, as you’ll see in the preview, are jerks. When things don’t go their way, they’ll have to go with the flow and stand their ground.

Here’s the official PR from BOOM!:

“At first, Jo and Rus don’t realize how much they have in common – she’s a middle schooler who’s constantly bullied and he’s a high schooler in a rock band. But when a mysterious one-eyed cat brings the two of them together, they quickly learn they’re both outcasts trying to figure out what they really want from life in a world where the odds are stacked against them. It’s only by becoming friends they discover who they are, who they want to be and what it takes for every one of us to find our own happiness!”

Jo & Rus hits local comic book stores on September 16, 2020 and bookstores on September 22, 2020. Winslow’s comics, including Gator Shinin’, a Parappa the Rapper parody and plenty more, are all available over at their website, funkyalligator.com. In the long wait for their debut graphic novel, check out the preview below – and their fresh art stlye.
