Humanoids has announced Legends of the Pierced Veil: Izuna, a new deluxe collected edition of the Eisner-winning Izuna series from creator/co-writer Saverio Tenuta, co-writer Bruno Letizia, and artist Carita Lupattelli. Translated from French by Montana Kane, the hardcover collection will arrive in June. Ahead of its release, The Beat is pleased to debut a preview for the book.

Here’s how Humanoids describes Legends of the Pierced Veil: Izuna:

Since the dawn of time, the Izuna wolves have been entrusted as guardians against Japan’s evil spirits without piercing the veil that keeps the spirit world of the Kami and the human world separate. One day, a dark force known as the Noggo appears, spreading infection among the spiritual plane, and the Izuna, sworn to protect this realm, attempt to fight it off. But when an Izuna cub is born in the shape of a young human girl, the divide between the spirit world and the waking world becomes threatened.

Humanoids previously released Izuna as two oversized deluxe volumes in 2018. The new hardcover collection formally brings the stories under the Legends of the Pierced Veil header, with the books set in the same universe as another previous Humanoids release written and illustrated by Tenuta, Legend of the Scarlet Blades, which was rereleased as Legends of the Pierced Veil: The Scarlet Blades earlier this year. Other books by Tenuta set in the same universe include The Mask of Fudo, two volumes of which were released by Humanoids in 2019 and 2021, respectively.

Check out the preview of the forthcoming book below. Legends of the Pierced Veil: Izuna is set to arrive in bookstores on Tuesday, June 13th, and in comic shops on Wednesday, June 14th.
