Dark Horse has really been smashing it with their creator owned ongoings this year, including Black Hammer and Ether, and Dead Inside #1  looks to be joining the party. Written by John Arcudi with art by Toni Fejzula (Veil),  colors by Andre May and a Dave Johnson cover (and Faith Erin Hicks cover) the title is a pun on the plot: Dead Inside is about a murder that takes place in a jail.

The Jail Crimes Division of the Sheriff’s Office in Mariposa County investigates crimes committed inside county jails. With a limited number of suspects who can’t escape, these are usually easy cases to solve—but not this one. As Detective Linda Caruso gets closer to the heart of the case, she discovers uncomfortable truths about her friends, her job, and herself.

Dead Inside #1 goes on sale December 21, and already has a few rave reviews.

“Dead Inside is the best kind of murder mystery.”—COMICS ALLIANCE

Dead Inside is a crime story like I’ve never seen. I’m a big crime fiction guy, so that takes some doing. Arcudi and Fejula have crafted a story about a murder mystery behind bars. Take a damaged detective and a crime no wants solved, and you’ve got a classic noir from a new angle. If you like crime comics, this is the one to read.”—Justin Jordan (The Strange Talent of Luther Strode)

“One of my favorite new comics of the year… Brilliant and a must read for fans of the genre..”—FORCES OF GEEK

“Dead Inside is the kind of mystery comic that creeps under your skin, burrows into your brain, and lingers there between issues.”—Cullen Bunn (Harrow County)

“This has been a banner year for strange murder-mystery comics.”—ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY

As you can see from the preview, it’s visually arresting.
