Top Shelf really has a knock for finding under-exposed cartoonists who have a distinctive look, especially in the all-ages category. They’ve just announced Home Time: Under the River by Australian cartoonist Campbell Whyte. It’s about twins, Lilly and David, whose plans for a relaxing last summer before high school are scuttled when they are transported to a village of fantastic creatures. Yep, it’s a classic portal adventure, but when it looks as great as this, it brings the genre to new life. Whyte is best known as a fine artist and this seven-page preview shows a kaleidoscope of styles!
Home Time: By the River ships in June and is a full 228-page graphic novel.
