Although Avengers: Endgame put to rest a lot of the stories set-up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe going back to 2008, at least a few of the characters introduced in 2015’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier are going to have a life post-Endgame. One of them is Anthony Mackie‘s The Falcon, who has already been slated for a Disney+ series. This may be hard to believe but the characters are also played by “actors” who appear in other roles and movies. Shocking, huh?
Once such movie is the action-thriller Point Blank, premiering on Netflix July 12, which stars Anthony Mackie and Frank Grillo, who played Brock Rumlow in The Winter Soldier, returned as Crossbones to kick-off the Civil War, and then made a surprise appearance in Endgame. (Gotta love those time travel stories!)
The two of them star in the action-thriller directed by Joe Lynch (Mayhem) that’s actually adapted from a terrific French action film of the same name, written and directed by Fred Cavayé. Although they’re rivals in the MCU, for this movie, they’ll be teaming up.
The tagline between the two films is pretty much the same general premise other than the location (and language) being changed:
“When his pregnant wife is kidnapped and held as collateral, Paul, an ER nurse, must team with the badly injured career criminal and murder suspect under his charge in order to save the lives of his wife and unborn child. Pitted against rival gangs and a deadly ring of corrupt cops, the unlikely duo find a way to survive together in the fight of their lives.”
Also, if you haven’t seen Joe Lynch’s office thriller Mayhem, starring Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead) and Samara Weaving (the upcoming Ready or Not) or his earlier film Everly with Salma Hayek, then you’re in for a treat. He’s great at directing action, although the humor he included in Mayhem might not be quite as prominent for this one, which is a far more serious race against time.
