Today marks the digital release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, including the much talked about “Ultimate Cut”. I’ll be watching that tonight with some friends and will circle back tomorrow with some thoughts. In the meantime, WB has revealed one key piece that’s included on the release: new concept art that features the six founding members of the big screen version of the Justice League.

Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman don’t look too terribly different from their appearances in BvS, but this gives us our best look yet at Cyborg and The Flash (played by Ray Fisher and Ezra Miller respectively, though weirdly that Flash looks nothing like Miller).

I’m very glad to see they’re making Cyborg look a bit less bulky, and I’m a big fan of the Aquaman design – which incidentally, is the film I’m most interested in.

Again, here’s the synopsis for Justice League, which hits next year and is currently filming:

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

  1. Why does Warners always feel the need to tweak Flash’s costume to the point of being unrecognizable? It’s such an iconic costume on its own and doesn’t need much done to it. I actually like everyone else’s though.

    And maybe wear some red/green 3D glasses to make the characters contrast more against the background.

  4. They probably try to tweak the design of the Flash costume because logically it makes no sense. Most of the others make sense:

    Superman: Kryptonian ceremonial clothing to honor his heritage

    Batman: Theatrical costume to frighten and intimidate criminals

    Robin (if they ever get around to him/her): Variation on a circus aerialist costume

    Wonder Woman: Warrior armor

    Aquaman: Warrior armor

    Cyborg: Cybernetic life support suit

    Green Lantern: Military uniform

    Flash: ???

    The Jay Garrick costume was clearly a nod to Mercury, so it made sense why he would dress that way. Barry Allen’s costume design is just nonsensical, even in the comics (even more nonsensical when used in live-action).

    At least from the description that was released from the recent “Justice League” set visit it sounds like the costume has a functional purpose (protection from heat and excess energy, helmet/mask for aerodynamic purposes).
