A protestor dressed as Spider-Man has gone viral after clashing with far right demonstrators at Minneapolis City Hall on Saturday, August 22. The Minnesota Star Tribune reports the man (whose name The Beat will decline to share) was arrested and charged with assault after striking far right leader (and January 6 Capitol attack participant) Jake Lang. He was released on bail, and per Hennepin County Jail records, will appear in court on September 4, while Lang is being held without bail.

A pair of purported GoFundMe pages for “Spider-Man,” respectively organized by Keyssy Ayala Castro Figueroa and writer Ash Chudgar, have together raised $110,852 to support him at the time of writing. The former says, “SPIDER-MAN will officially be represented 100% PROBONO, This is such a big blessing for him and his family. We couldn’t have accomplished this without the help of this wonderful community. We are so grateful for all the donations,resources and positive support.”
It adds, “With his identity recently being revealed due to the immense amount of media coverage. (Which we are thankful for) but there’s always fear of retaliation from the opposing side. Funds will be used to help with relocating, security, his recovery and any future issues he would face.”
Photographer Chris Juhn, who captured the incident on camera, shared on Facebook that he was pepper-sprayed during the fight, and has asked for any support to be made through PayPal. You can also now follow him on new accounts on Instagram and Threads, as well as his official website. Additionally, he shared footage, in which “Spider-Man” is seen trying to take a racist sign from Lang’s group while they flee, before getting apprehended by police:
