Per a GoFundMe started by his cousin Gina Gabianelli, artist Andy Fish (Blackwood, Sabrina the Teenage Witch) has been diagnosed with two types of rare blood cancers, B-cell lymphoma and myelofibrosis. Fish, who frequently collaborates with his wife Veronica Fish, was diagnosed on June 22, 2026, and is currently undergoing four months of outpatient chemotherapy.
He will spend two months receiving an allogenic stem cell transplant at UMass Memorial Health (operated by the University of Massachusetts) to treat both cancers this winter, in addition to strong chemotherapy before and after the procedure. As Fish will be unable to work during this period, his cousin Gabianelli started the GoFundMe to cover his and Veronica Fish’s main living expenses, “including but not limited to monthly mortgage and car payments.”
At the time of writing, $28,729 has been raised of the $30,000 goal. Gabianelli comments, “With many upcoming hospital stays, the future is still uncertain. We did not know until recently how long Andy’s post-transplant chemo treatments would take, and how many more will still need to be administered. With recent setbacks and an unexpected hospital stay this week, we are going to keep the fundraising going. Every share helps just as much as your donation. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
The Beat wishes the Fishes well in their battle with cancer. The couple rose to prominence around 2018 with their Dark Horse series Blackwood (created with Evan Dorkin), and for their Sabrina the Teenage Witch run (with Kelly Thompson) for Archie. Their most recent release, Mister Magic: The Graphic Novel, is available now from Ten Speed Press.
Andy Fish is also a teacher who has authored several drawing guides, and volunteers as a mentor and boxing coach for the Boys and Girls Club of America. He has three sons from a previous marriage.
