Marvel announced early Thursday morning at an NYCC retailer meeting that its line of one-shots and limited series, The End is making a come back, beginning in 2020. As the name suggests, The End stories tell the “last adventures” of Marvel’s heroes and are typically set in a distant future. The original run of these comics appeared somewhat sporadically beginning with Hulk: The End in 2002 and later included on Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Spider-Girl, Punisher, Wolverine, the X-Men and the entire Marvel Universe with Marvel: The End.
This time around, the Marvel has selected Captain America, Doctor Strange, Miles Morales, Venom, Captain Marvel, and Deadpool as its next targets for The End titles. As might be expected, several creators are being pushed into a kill your darlings situation here. Notably, Kelly Thompson is taking on Captain Marvel’s elegy after a beloved run with the character, Leah Williams is putting Dr. Stranger to bed after scripting the hero in last year’s What If: Magik, Saladin Ahmed, who’s only just begun his time with Marvel’s sweet boy Miles Morales, is now penning his final act and Joe Kelly, who’s late ’90s run on Deadpool breathed life back into the series is slated to snuff him back out.
