According to Buzzfeed, a writer is already attached to the Star Wars trilogy based on the Knights of the Old Republic video game series. LucasFilm hired Laeta Kalogridis, the creator of Netflix’s Altered Carbon whose writing credits include Shutter Island and Alita: Battle Angel. A script for the first movie is almost complete. Given its setting in the ancient past, this might be the same trilogy developed by Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. If that were the case, however, you would think they’d be writing the script themselves. Personally, I wonder if LucasFilm reconsidered that hiring choice after that Game of Thrones finale.
The Knights of the Old Republic video games are responsible for some of the most acclaimed stories in the Star Wars canon. Jedi Padawan Bastila Shan, featured in those games, is also one of Star Wars‘ most beloved characters. This marks only the second Star Wars film written or co-written by a woman. Fans widely consider the first, The Empire Strikes Back, the best of the series.
